How we met: Aquatic knew us through a mutual acquaintance, and attended our first OceanMBA.

Propeller theme: Ocean Carbon

Propeller investment stage: Seed

Allan Adams is an MIT physicist whose passion for underwater photography opened his eyes to what the ocean carbon cycle could do to combat climate change, and how he could unlock the major hurdle of ocean sensing at scale. Aquatic Labs is re-engineering ocean sensing infrastructure to meet the demand for global ocean data collection. Aquatic Labs’ products cover everything from coastal monitoring to MRV for CDR to price discovery for natural capital.

  • Why we love the founder – Allan is a brilliant, hop-scotching ball of uranium. He pairs outstanding technical chops with enthusiasm and energy to take on daunting challenges. He is committed to solving this problem, as fast as he possibly can.
  • What’s novel about Aquatic’s tech – Aquatic’s technology suite and methodology both nail the logical shortcomings of current data collection, with an eye to the future need for massive scale.
  • Why we’re excited about this market –  we’re excited about Aquatic because their products can easily span beyond carbon removal markets to coastal monitoring, eDNA, and other important ocean sensing needs.
  • How impactful Aquatic could be – Aquatic’s approach resonates with our deep belief in the need for ubiquitous ocean data collection. Almost every ocean market is under-resourced with information to make decisions, or measure appropriately. We believe Aquatic could unlock a big piece of this puzzle.
